Connacht Awards 2023 for Sligo
Sligo Athletic Club was among the clubs honoured when the final Connacht Athletics 2022 Awards were announced formally this morning.
The Fr Kevin Ryle Award for the officials of the year was a joint award shared between three long-time stalwarts of the sport who have ensured the starts of all races within Connacht have been of an exceptionally high standard.
Congratulations to Michael O’Hart (Sligo), Eamon O’Donnell and Oliver Geraghty (GCH) for their years of loyal service to the cause of Connacht Athletics.
The Connacht Athletics Hall of Fame Award was presented posthumously to popular former National Champion and well-known long-time athletics official Ray Flynn (Sligo), who sadly passed well before his time on the drive home from the National Road Relays in April.
Ray was ever-present at the finish line of all Connacht and National Championship events and will be sadly missed by all who knew him and worked with him.
For all the winners, see https://www.facebook.com/591159124608806/posts/1984504405274264/
Congrats to all award winners, and thanks to Pierce O’Callaghan & everyone involved across the Connacht clubs for nominating, voting and sharing generously in a wonderfully good-natured & positive process.

Sligo Coast 2 Coast Charity Donations
Sligo Coast to Coast returned after a 2-year break. We were delighted to welcome back Call of the Wild, as our event sponsor.
We had a wonderful uptake and interest in the event. However, it would not have been possible to have such a well-managed event without all our volunteers, Sligo Civil Defense, Sligo County Council, and An Garda Siochana, so we thank you all sincerely for your support.
Because of the success of the Sligo Coast to Coast, Sligo Athletics Club raised much needed funds and are in a position to make a generous donation to four wonderful local charities who serve our community tirelessly. These are RNLI, St Johns Patient Comfort Fund, Sligo Cancer Support Centre and Focus Ireland. We arranged to call into Call of the Wild during the week to present each organisation with a cheque in appreciation of their work.
About Sligo Athletics Club
In 1971 Sligo A.C was formed to promote athletics in and around the area of Sligo Town. Organised athletics had always been strong in the County, with nearby Calry Athletics Club blazing a trail from the mid-’60s. Soon the black & white of newly formed Sligo A.C appeared at local and regional meetings of track & field, road and cross country competitions. Under expert coaching, local talent flourished, and the club produced champions at regional and national levels. Athletes such as Brendan Mooney (cross country); Joe Philips (Javelin); Stephanie O’Brien (Shot Putt); Kevin Martin (High Jump);
